As the father and former manager of TV actress Raven-Symoné, who began on The Cosby Show and went on to star in her own show, That's So Raven, Pearman navigated his talented, enthusiastic daughter through the murky waters of showbiz to produce an exceptionally well-adjusted and successful young woman. In his parenting volume, the winning stage dad presents eight guiding principles, which he calls "Dream Catchers," meant to stabilize kids while encouraging them to "dream without limitations," fostering "strong, independent, and unique personalities." Though he uses examples from his experience with the exceptionally precocious Raven, who cut a record at age seven, his concepts are universal: playing a positive role model, imbuing children with focus and encouraging them to face their fears, setting goals, and more. Pearman also cites studies and philosophers, includes thought-provoking questionnaires to help parents and children hone in on their dreams, and invites testimony from knowing sources like Seseme Street writer-producer Emily Pearl Kingsley and Stephanie Austin, the modeling agency founder who discovered Raven when she was just a year old.

Welcome! My name is Christopher B. Pearman, the father of Raven-Symoné, and author of Dream So Big: A Parent's Guide to Helping Your Child Believe and Achieve. I hope by now you've gotten a chance to check out. Here on the site, I've got some helpful resources and other information about the book and the Dream Catcher principles. As a parent, I'm sure you've encountered those moments when your children's dreams come face to face with 'reality.' It wasn't long after my wife Lydia and I had Raven that we dealt with this challenge. As we all watched The Cosby Show one night, Raven turned around and announced, "I can do what Rudy does. I want to be on that show" Those words of a precocious three-year-old rocketed us all into an exciting adventure, and none of our lives were the same again.

I knew that from that moment on, I would dedicate my life to making my little girl's dreams come true. Through trial and error, many tough days, some devastating hardships, and tremendous triumphs, I began to formulate what I call "Dream Catchers", a series of parenting principles that helped me and will help all parents guide their children to the fulfillment of their dreams. They helped Raven become the leading young African-American entertainer in the world. Now it's your children's turn.

Thanks, Dad, from the bottom of my heart, for catapulting me to the stars. You taught me how to present myself, to love myself, to respect myself, and to believe in myself. I'm so much wiser because of you. I see you in me. And when I look around at the full life we've achieved, I'm touched, thankful, and humbled. You gave me the tools, and someday I will share them with my children. I love you, Dad. -- Raven-Symoné
